The Monthly Design Challenge - Seeing Circles

Well it's February, which means it is the second month of Finki's Monthly Design Challenge. This month's theme was 'Seeing Circles'. For ages I wondered what could I do? A pattern?

So it came to me, the paper cut dolls with their fancy outfits. So of course I chose a 1960s mod theme pattern that I designed on InDesign, for a 60s style dress. I am no illustrator, that is why I use the computer as my medium. End result below:-


I showed this pattern to my son, he said, "oh no don't tell me your going to become a fashion designer? For the love of God, don't!" I was quite surprised by his response. He is a funny boy.

Hop onto the Japanese Bullet Train

As I said in my last post, I was joining in on Finki's Monthly Design Challenge. I had a few people ask what I was designing for my business. I had decided that I wanted to design for myself, I wanted to have fun and most of all be relaxed.

So I decided to make a basic collage from Japanese paper, coloured paper and Japanese Washi Tape.


I taught myself how to do origami letters from a very cute and simple web site called The Origami Club This site was a great find. Japanese paper from an assortment of paper shops around Melbourne and the Japanese Washi Tape is from Lark

So there you go. One monthly design challenge gone, 11 to go!

The Monthly Design Challenge - Turning Japanese

Over at Finki there is a new game / challenge to play each month. Each month a theme will be chosen and one can create a piece to represent that theme. This month it is 'turning Japanese'.

At present I am currently designing a piece for this months challenge. I really should be making products for my next 3 markets which are in a few weeks time.
