A map table to show us the way
On Pinterest I saw this very cute side table that had a map glued to the top of it. The Pin guided me over to Primitive & Proper's blog post tutorial. Seeing I still had many maps left over, I thought I would give it ago.
1 Table
Mod Podge ($20.00 - Riot & Art)
Brushes of some kind
1 Map
Scissors
Cloth to wipe table
After cleaning the table, I brushed Mod Podge all over the table, then placed the map on top of the table. Smoothed it out as much as I could.
Next I cut around the table, but left 2 cm of map hanging over the edge. Then proceeded to cut the paper so it would be easy to glue, fold and tuck under the table.
Next step was to paste another layer of Mod Podge on the map to give it some protection. It took less than 15 minutes to dry seeing I was doing project outside. Then some more layers of the Mod Podge for extract protection.
All done! An old table made lovely and interesting again.

Do you have a map?
Every year we have a Christmas wreath on the front door. The one we have is looking mighty sorry for it's self, so I thought I would make one out of maps. I love maps, love there colours, grids and so on. I sometimes think I should have been a cartographer.
First step, measure around a very large bowl, then use one that is smaller. Cut out the inner circle.
Second step, cut out the leaves. I used a template of a leaf, so all the leaves would be of similar size. Cut the leaves, either glue or staple them to your paper ring. I stapled them.

Last step. Tie a ribbon and hang on door. I hid the ribbon under the leaves.

What I like....
When I saw these beautifully crafted lights by Ania Pauser, I just had to share them with you all. They are designed using paper and aero plywood. Aren't they just amazing.
I am not surprised that Ania Pauser won Young Designer of the Year - 2012 Plaza Design Award.

Finders Keepers Market
I was really looking forward to venturing to the Finders Keepers Market here in Melbourne. Seeing I enjoyed it so much last year. Unfortunately my positive mood was tarnished when I arrived to discover that I had to pay $13.00 for parking. I wasn't happy because last year it was free and secondly it put a dent into my budget. I asked at the gate why this year one had to pay, unlike last year, they blamed the football match. Mmmm
Anyway Finders Keepers was filled with many beautiful and well made products. There were many stalls that were there last year, but also some new ones as well. Not sure if it was me or what, but it felt smaller.
I don't have many photo's, actually very little, seeing my camera decided to play up. Sigh. But what I do have is photo's of The Paper Convention I had the pleasure of meeting Cathy, who was decorated with origami paper love hearts. I so do hope they are able to have their convention down here in Melbourne. To keep up-to-date with their news click here and sign up to their newsletter.

Blogtoberfest - Day 30 - Book Review - Origami Greetings
Have you ever purchased a book, you cannot read? Well I did this a few months ago.
Origami Greetings Takuji Sugimura 4th Ed. 1996,
Toho-shuppan Co., Ltd
ISBN 4-88591-444-2
There are plenty of diagrams, visually explaining how to fold the paper to make the desired item. If you love the art of origami and it doesn't worry you that you cannot read it, then maybe give it ago.

Toho-shuppan Co., Ltd
ISBN 4-88591-444-2
Origami Greetings is mostly written in Japanese (Contents is also in English). If one cannot read Japanese, have no fear, you can still take on the challenge of making letters or cards that have an origami animal or object connected to it.

Blogtoberfest - Day 22 - Book Review

Marie Claire Ideas Papercraft: Over 50 designs made with cut, folded, pasted and stitched paper 2008 Eng Version Quadrille ISBN: 978 184400 695 3
I fully admit I purchased this book because of the eye candy images of the papercraft projects. The photography is beautiful and calming. :-)
There are 50 projects, ranging from boxes, stationery, housewares, bags and decorations. The directions are simple. You are given a list of materials and in some cases even measurements are mentioned, almost like a food recipe. To complete the book, there are a selection of templates at the back. You will need access to a photocopier. Overall a lovely book and well worth the $32.99 (Hardback -Aust.) price that I paid.

Sewing an Itchy Bird
Recently purchased this wonderful paper bird sewing kit. I had to have it, when I saw it at Magnolia Square last Saturday.
So to tackle the kit I quickly learn't how to do blanket stitch, by watching a Youtube tutorial. I liked this Youtube video, not only did I learn a new stitch, but I was able to learn via hearing this soothing music. Which was a must, for a budding sewer like me. So on with the kit.
Itchy Bird has included everything in the kit, which sells for $10.00. The instructions, paper, thread, icy pole stick, pattern, glue spots and legs. What you need, is a sewing needle and hot glue gun.

Isn't the bird so cute. The paper is a print of an old London map. So perfect.
[If you want to contact Itchy Bird, please email me and I will send you her email or go here for their Etsy store.]

Book Binding Course
Recently I had the pleasure of attending a basic book binding course with my friend Trudi at the CAE in Melbourne. I was very excited to learn a new skill and also create something for me.
Our teacher Geraldine is a fabulous teacher, she's funny and interesting. I just wanted to keep learning from her. Also to my surprise Michelle from Crayon Chick turned up for the course as well, small world!
During the day we learnt about signatures, sewing, yes sewing! Me sewing, I know it's a shock but I actually sewed. Admittedly I had to get Trudi to thread my needle, I just couldn't do it! As you can see from the above photo, I pricked myself with the needle and bled onto the paper. I said to T, I bet my sewing friends would be laughing right now if they could see this.
Anyway folding, sewing, taping and glueing was all learn't throughout the day. End product a beautiful book. I still haven't used it, but I have caught the cat sitting on it once, to my horror!
Overall fantastic day, and I would throughly recommend it to anyone.

I'm a little sad
Well I discovered that the shop is closing down. Hearing this from a staff member, I became very sad, I stressed to the lady how could this happen? She just said for financial reasons, she said it's a pity because business was picking up. I suggested couldn't they just rent a smaller shop. Alas no. She thanked me for the support and stated that the shop will close on April 11th.
There are two other Pepe's Paperie branches but they are in Canberra and Sydney. A long way.... Zeta Florence will just have to fill the gap for me.
